Qwixl Qwixl

For parents and guardians

What your child is signing up to - and how Qwixl supports their learning and safety.

What is Qwixl?

Qwixl is an educational platform used by teachers to set assignments, mark work, and give feedback. Students complete work online and receive personalised feedback. We focus on writing, spelling and grammar practice, and on giving teachers early insight into learners who may need extra support - all in one place.

Benefits for your child

  • Personalised feedback: Teachers provide the marking criteria and question-level feedback. Qwixl marks consistently across all students. Spelling and grammar support is built in, with follow-up practice so your child can improve in the areas that matter.

  • Progress and practice: Students can see their progress, average grade, and streaks. Practice activities are tied to the feedback they receive, so learning is targeted.
  • One place for assignments: Assignments, feedback, and corrections are all in one dashboard so your child can keep track of what's been set and what's been marked.

SEN insight and SENCO link

Qwixl includes early insight into learners who may need extra support and surfaces potential needs in those who might otherwise go unnoticed. We use typing behaviour (e.g. timing, corrections) only within answer fields (we do not track activity outside of Qwixl), to help teachers spot patterns that may suggest a need for support. This is designed to help, not label: it gives the teacher an early view so they can consider next steps and is just one of many things teachers consider when assessing their students.

When your child's teacher has linked a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to their account, that SENCO may be able to see overview information about students in the teacher's classes (in line with the access the teacher has granted). This supports a joined-up approach between the teacher and the SENCO. The teacher controls who is linked and what classes are shared.

How we handle data

We store only what we need to run the service: name, email, role, and (for students) date of birth so we can apply age and consent rules. We do not sell personal data. We use data to provide marking, feedback, practice, and insight features; to send service-related emails (e.g. consent requests, password reset); and to comply with the law. Typing behaviour is used only for the insight and integrity features described above. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Who has access to your child's data?

  • The teacher who set the assignments and classes your child joins can see their submissions, grades, and feedback.
  • A linked SENCO (if the teacher has linked one) may have access to overview information for students in the teacher's classes, as set by the teacher.
  • You, as parent or guardian, can be linked to your child's account. Once linked, you can sign in to a parent dashboard to see their progress, assignments, and (where the teacher allows) SEN-related information.
  • We use trusted processors (e.g. hosting, email) under contracts that require them to protect data and use it only as we instruct.

Who can revoke access, and how?

You can withdraw consent for your child's account at any time. If you gave consent via the link we sent you, you can contact us (see Contact on our website) and ask to withdraw it. Once consent is withdrawn, your child will no longer be able to access Qwixl until consent is given again.
You can also request access to your child's data, correction of errors, or deletion in line with data protection law. See the "Your rights" section in our Privacy Policy and contact us to exercise these rights.

Important terms

Students under 13 must have your consent before they can use Qwixl; we send you a secure link to approve. For some year groups (e.g. UK Year 7, 8, 9), we require parental consent for all students in the class. We do not allow children aged 9 or under to create an account. Our full safeguarding and legal terms are in our Terms of Service.
